Ever since Anton told us about the schmetterlings at the Natural History Museum we've been dying to take Leona for a visit. The butterfly exhibit is a warm, humid retreat from the city's icy winterness. Leona was so cozy she fell asleep just as we went in. As any other parent knows you never really want to wake up a sleeping baby, but at $24 a ticket we decided to give her a prod, a nudge and a whistle. At first she was rather grumpy but once a yellow and blue butterfly flew laps around her head she cheered up. For the rest of the exhibit she was all smiles. Her head was continually on the move, eyes wide open following the pretty colors flapping around.
When we entered a butterfly took a liking to Kelly-Anne, maybe it was a relative from the past or something. It hung out on her shoulder quite happily, a few times it would go for a fly but it always came back to its new comfort zone. (Um, yeah...or it could have been because I smeared sugary lolly-melt on my shoulder right before I went in!)
We also showed Leona a stuffed kiwi and a moa but she wasn't so interested.
